Miss McLeod

The Rising Star Miss McLeod Self-Produced Redefining Independence

In the current Canadian music industry, few artists embody the “do-it-yourself” spirit quite like Miss McLeod. At just 20 years old, the Ottawa-born artist has already accomplished what many strive for in a lifetime.

As a recipient of the Rising Star Award at the MiMc Music Awards 2025, Miss McLeod is proving that age is never a barrier, but can be an advantage in securing a launchpad.

Miss McCleod, Brand New Car

With six independent albums, Miss McLeod’s story is built on persistence, technical mastery, and a deep-rooted connection to her Jamaican heritage.

Fast forward to today, and that little girl has graced some of the most prestigious stages in the world. The legendary Apollo Theatre in Harlem, as well as the National Arts Centre and RBC Bluesfest, have seen Miss McLeod transition from a child performer to a seasoned professional.

Her drive isn’t just about the applause; it’s about inspiring the next generation of Canadian musicians to use their environment as a promotional advantage.

The Story of “Brand New Car”

What sets Miss McLeod apart in the Canadian R&B and Pop scene is her hands-on approach to her craft. She isn’t just the voice; she is the architect. This was solidified when she received the SOCAN Young Songwriters Award for her single “No Drama,” which she self-produced and engineered.

Her hit track, “Brand New Car,” from the album The Sass Offs, serves as a perfect example of her creative side. Inspired by her love for Volvo and heavily influenced by the musical genius of Prince, Miss McLeod wrote, produced, and engineered the entire track in just one week.

True to her “extreme creativity,” she didn’t stop at the audio. She purchased a used 2006 Volvo C70, wrapped it in pink glitter, and produced a full-scale music video, complete with actors and a “happy-go-lucky” spirit that has become her trademark.

Miss McLeod Inspiring the Digital Community

As a Rising Star recognized by the Music In Motion Canada (MiMc) community, she represents the future of music: independent, technically skilled, and fearless. Her message to other artists is simple: don’t wait for permission.
