The MiMc Music Awards 2025 Honorary Recognition

Celebrating the Next Wave of Canadian Excellence.

The Canadian music scene has always been a powerhouse of raw talent, but the MiMc Music Awards 2025 brought something truly special to the forefront.

While the winners took home the Awards, the depth of talent among the semi-finalists was so profound that a simple “thank you” wasn’t enough.

Today, we are presenting our Honorary List—a selection of artists who delivered world-class songs, shattered creative moulds, and proved that the future of Canadian music is in very capable hands.

For music producers and industry scouts, these could be the names that in the future soar toward the mainstream. For fans, these are the tracks that belong on your “Daily Drive” and “New Indie” playlists.

The Honourary Recognition List

1. Charles Vaccaro – “Old Country Road.”

Montreal’s own Charles V. Rox Vaccaro is a seasoned veteran with a rock pedigree that most only dream of. A founding member of the 80s band LIPSTIK Vaccaro brings a lifetime of stories to his music.

With “Old Country Road,” he blends his Montreal upbringing and Sicilian roots into a narrative-driven rock anthem. His three-time HIMA and HMMA nominations prove that his “Northern Heart” is recognized far beyond Canadian borders.

2. Allyson Whitmell – “Crack in My Window”.

Allyson Whitmell is a storyteller in the truest sense. A University of Toronto graduate in Piano Performance, Allyson’s sound is a cinematic blend of pop, jazz, and musical theatre.

“Crack in My Window” highlights her “meticulous craft” and “deeply felt storytelling”. Currently FACTOR-funded for 2025/26, Allyson is an artist whose technical brilliance is matched only by her emotional resonance.

3. Aging Gracefully – “Shatter the Mirror.”

Proving that it is never too late to live life large, Karen Pyra began recording at age 55. Rooted in Prince Edward Island, her music celebrates authenticity.

“Shatter the Mirror,” performed with her blues duo Aging Disgracefully, has already entered the East Coast Top 30 Hall of Fame. Her raw, soulful delivery is a masterclass in emotional truth, making her a vital voice in the Canadian blues scene.

4. Aari Malhotra – “Slow it Down”

Aari Malhotra’s journey is one of resilience. After discovering a flaw in his vocal technique that required two years of “unlearning,” Aari triumphantly returned to join the Canadian Children’s Opera Company.

“Slow it Down” showcases the evolution of his voice, a testament to his passion and the guidance of his mentors. His story is a powerful reminder that the path to success is rarely a straight line, but the destination is worth the fight.

5. Son Claro– “Little Mama.”

If you are looking for the perfect fusion of bluesy, country-rock and a vintage, soulful groove, Son Claro is the band that needs to be on your radar.

Their track “Little Mama” is a masterclass in infectious energy, blending a “happy-go-lucky” rhythm with a vocal delivery that feels both fresh and timeless.

Am Lerner

For those who prefer their music with a side of social commentary, Am Lerner delivers.

“Running from the Thought Police” is a deeply lyrical, thought-provoking track that challenges the status quo. Lerner’s ability to pair complex themes with accessible indie-rock melodies makes him a standout for fans of narrative-driven songwriting.

7. Stergios Kalochoridis – “You know I can’t go on without you.”

Stergios Kalochoridis
masterfully explores the depths of emotion in this melodic standout.

His performance is steeped in character, offering a vulnerable look at love and loss. It is the kind of song that producers look for when seeking “cinematic flair” for film scores or high-impact radio play.
