About the Song
“Open Road” is an upbeat country rock single featuring crisp Telecaster leads, warm acoustic drums, and a driving steel-wound bass groove. Kris’s smoky vocal rides the track with a confident edge, delivering a hook that lands on first listen – a sonic match for the song’s post-breakup freedom and impulsive rebound romance. But the real star here is the groove, the grit, and the repeat-ready chorus.
About the Project
Kris Anders teamed up with local Producer Jeff Johnson of Bailey Way Entertainment to produce, record, and mix the new single. “Having a producer like Jeff in my corner was an amazing experience. Jeff finds ways to bring the best out of his artists and this project was no exception. We laid down some of the instrumental tracks and once we had that I took the song to my vocal coach, Melina Schein. We broke the song down into the individual lyrics and really dug into the meaning behind each lyric.
Melina helped me put emotion and energy into each line. When it was time to record the final vocals, I was so deep into this song that we had to adjust the mic’s in the studio so I wouldn’t blow up the mix! It was a great experience to be able to work with both of these professionals to make the record.”
Kris then teamed up with James Alton of Kelowna Film Studios to help make the song jump to life onscreen. Together they laid out a storyline and worked with locations in the Okanagan to help tell the story within the song. The video features lead actress, Giuliana, a genuine cowgirl from the Love Reins Ranch as she takes on the character experiencing recent heartbreak by hitting the “Open Road” in a classic Mustang with drone shots above Kal Lake, transitioning to Kris’s band playing the song in a saloon complete with an audience line dancing and grooving to the high paced and energetic Country Rock song.
“Working with James was also a delight. He’s a total pro and we made a great team. Making a music video with a specific budget always requires a lot of flexibility but we made it work! We had our background actors step up when we needed them and the weather cooperated on all our outdoor shoot locations. I’m really happy with how it all came together”.
