“Fast Forward” by The R.E.S.E.A.R.C.H.
The R.E.S.E.A.R.C.H. Hit the Gas with Catchy New Single “Fast Forward”
There are some songs that grab you instantly. No overthinking, no low build, just a hook, a groove, and a chorus that sticks in your head before the first listen is over. Vancouver trip, The R.E.S.E.A.R.C.H delivers just that with their new single “Fast Forward.”
A Tight Burst of Indie Rock Energy
The track clocks in at just over two minutes; it’s a tight burst of indie rock energy that feels tailor-made for a radio station. It’s clean, catchy, and fun in a way that makes it so easy to imagine the song sliding perfectly into rotation between tracks on stations like 102.0 The Edge or 94.9 The Rock.
Musically, “Fast Forward” blends garage-rock grit with bright indie-pop sensibilities. The guitars pack a punch through a restless urgency, while the rhythm keeps things moving at full speed. What you end up with is a track that feels both nostalgic and modern at the same time. There are definitely shades of early-2000s indie in the DNA of this song, but the production keeps this baby feeling fresh and current.
The Creative Collective Behind the Sound
There’s a backstory here behind the project. The trio is made up of Richard Scarlett, Ryan Worsleey, and Ali Noir. A creative trio who has been approaching music less like a traditional band, but more like a collaborative production collective. They first bring in a sonic concept, then bring in collaborators to help shape the final sound.
What makes “Fast Forward” even more compelling is the emotional story behind it. The song was partly inspired by a personal tragedy after Richard Scarlett lost the mother of his children, Angela Bolognese. The significant loss is what pushed him back into the studio, a motivation by memories and how much she championed his music.
Turning Tragedy into Optimism
Despite the sad and heavy backstory, the song itself does not dwell in darkness; instead, it moves lightly with optimism. This is a track that reminds you that music can transform grief into something energetic, something life-affirming.
“Fast Forward” sits perfectly between that sweet spot of indie swagger and art-pop experimentation. The versus shifts into a punchy chorus, giving us a track with an almost restless momentum that keeps listeners hooked from start to finish.
For fans of The Strokes, Franz Ferdinand, or even the more melodic side of indie garage rock revival, The R.E.A.S.E.A.R.C.H is definitely one to add to your radar.
If “Fast Forward” is any indication, The R.E.A.S.E.A.R.C.H are definitely not looking backward. They are doing exactly what the title suggests. Moving ahead at full speed.
