Canadian High School Student Spends Summer Break Building Audience as Electronic DJ and Producer
WINNIPEG, MB – August 19, 2026 – While most teenagers use their summer break to relax, 17-year-old Winnipeg local LxAM spent his time preparing for two very different fast-paced environments: the DJ booth and the ice rink. The Shaftesbury High School student, going into Grade 12 and attending the Rink Hockey Academy (RHA), has dedicated his school holidays to advancing his fast-growing career as a house and tech-house music producer.
Splitting his summer between Winnipeg and Miami, Florida, LxAM focused heavily on his music production and developing his signature club-focused sound. His dedication is paying off ; the independent artist now boasts over 20,000 monthly listeners on Spotify.
A recent DJ set recorded in Miami over the summer increased his online profile, generating more than 220,000 views on TikTok and proving the young Manitoban’s ability to command an audience well beyond his local scene.
“I’m only 17, so I know I’m still at the beginning of my career, but that is also what makes it exciting,” LxAM noted recently regarding his rapid growth as an independent artist. “I’m learning constantly and trying to improve with every track and every set.”
“Using Ableton Live as his primary production software, his summer studio sessions have culminated in the preparation of a highly anticipated new single, “I Just Wanna Dance,” officially scheduled for release this September just as the school year begins. The track promises to follow the high-energy club atmosphere of his previous releases like “Rave (All Night).”
However, LxAM’s summer wasn’t exclusively spent behind a mixing board. Balancing his dual passions requires intense discipline. Between producing tracks and building his music catalog, he trained at The Rink and Evolution Hockey and worked out in the gym at Complete Fitness with his Trainer Shaun Morris to get ready for hockey season.
“My days can be pretty busy because I’m balancing music with everything else that comes with being 17,” LxAM explained.
As he steps into his senior year at Shaftesbury High School, LxAM represents a new generation of independent creators proving that with serious dedication, local talent can make an international impact right from their laptops.
